In this post I will start by talking about a scene I have made in blender to help present my sword for this project. I will make a short video showcasing the sword in the cool scene I created in my spare time. I will also talk about how I feel this project went and in doing so I will conclude this sword-tember project.
Below is a video showcasing my sword in blender using an environment that showcase my favourite style:
As you can see from the video the scene looks great and I think this Is a cool way to showcase my sword as It really gives the idea of how it could be presented in a game. I am really happy with how this scene turned out and I think I will try making more like it in the future.
Conclusion
Now that I have covered my sword project I will spend some time evaluating how I think the project went. Overall I think this project has been a success as I achieved what I set out to do, which was to recreate a sword from my favourite video game. After researching which sword to recreate I felt I had made the right choice and was confident going into blender that I could re make the sword.
Negatives
The main negatives about my project is that I struggled to texture my model in the style that I had researched. What I mean by this is that in my research I had mainly looked into realistic textures and materials that you see in real life but when the time came to texture my sword I was confused to why the substance painters materials looked so basic on my models instead of being the realistic textures I had intended them to be. I soon began to realize that because my models were not high poly the high grade of textures don't work, this lead to some problems but I solved these by tweaking my work to match a low poly style that I think looks really nice. This sparked the realization that I am not very good at high poly work but rather at low poly work and that I can progress in this style of work in the future.
Positives
The main positives of this project is that I successfully made my sword with the inspiration that I had, even if the style was different. The fact that I made a sword from my favourite video game is of course a bonus as It felt enjoyable to work on and I had a great time watching my model grow into a fully built sword of destruction. Aside from the success of the sword itself I also found that I grew an interest in trying to use my skills to produce a new style of work, in this case I took a liking to low poly modelling and texturing and from this project I will hopefully continue to work in this low poly style that I have been inspired by. I will hopefully get the chance over this year to practice this style of work and improve whilst making some awesome project work as well.
In conclusion I am very happy with this project and how everything turned out. I look forward to creating something even cooler for the next project and even more to come.
