The picture below is a very basic first attempt at creating my model. I have made face inserts and have extruded around them to add depth to the cube.
This second picture shows how I have taken the first model and beveled the corners and edges to create a smoother look. With this model you can begin to see how the crate is going to form into a more advanced model.
After many long hours in blender I have created a high detailed model witch I feel is ready for texturing and the eventually an implementation in an engine.
The model below is the main model and is what the crate looks like when it is closed.
The second model below is the crate when it has been fully opened. In the middle of the lid you will find a tiny little square that has been modelled that is in fact where the loot would sit.
Overall I am very pleased with the turn out and think that the model is more than ready to be put into substance for texturing. If I was to model the crate again however I would make sure the UV map was not stretched as that was a problem I came up against when preparing to export the file into substance.
