This Screenshot is of my first initial idea that I have created.
This is what I can improve on and turn into a better idea.
The image below is of some refined sketches that I made from my initial sketches above.
This image below shows how I have taken my refined ideas and created 2 more detailed final sketches.
Now with these 2 final sketches I have chose one to discard and one to take forward into the modelling phase. I have discarded the one on the right of the screenshot as I feel that when modelling it would be to square and I wouldn't be able to round of any detailed edges or verts.
Personally I feel that with the one on the left it has more room to extruded and bevel the corners to make an interesting design. So to wrap it up the one on the left of the screenshot is the one i have taken forward to produce a 3D model.
Also as a bonus I decided to make a turn around as shown below to make it easier to model my crate into blender.
