Drive, Drift, Turn, Boost, Accelerate, Collect
Definition of Racing Games: The ability to race against opponents to achieve a victory, based on performance against others, E.G Be the first person to cross the finish line.
Super Mario Kart:
Objectives and Mechanics:
Race for 1st place,
Collect Coins for score,
Pick up Mystery Boxes for power ups,
Race for 5 laps an aim for a first place.
F-ZERO:
Objectives and Mechanics:
Win the race against the AI’S,
Stay on the smoother track for more speed,
Pick up boost for faster acceleration,
Use the blue pad on the track to jump up an increase the speed,
Keep your power bar up or you explode.
Ridge Racer Type 4:
Objectives and Mechanics:
Chose a Sponsor for the race,
Race against 8 other AI’S,
Get 3rd place or higher to qualify for the rest of the Grand Prix,
Destruction Derby:
Objectives and Mechanics:
Race round a cross section course and survive to win,
Take out other competitors to save yourself,
Keep your car alive, watch out for your cars health.
Racing Game Layout:
From the notes I made I could see a distinctive pattern of how the racing games where set out:
They all had some sort of timer that gave and indication to how quickly you were racing by each lap that past.
They all had some type of diagram of the race circuit/course in the bottom left of the screen so that the racer could look how far away from finishing they were.
They all had some way of keeping a record of score, either by using coins like in Mario that you could collect or a time like in F-ZERO.
