The following images are of crates and loot boxes that are found in popular video games such as, Fortnite, Destiny, Apex Legends and Overwatch.
In games such as Fortnite and Apex Legends, the crates are used to hand out randomized gear for combat inside the battle royale arena. In games such as Overwatch and Call of Duty the crate system works buy unlock them via in game currency. The unlocks are usually only cosmetic but can also be a weapon like in Black Ops 3. Finally games like Destiny and Borderlands 3, use a variety of different loot crates to hand out loot in the open world to the player. This comes in forms of weapons, armour and class mods.
Further Research
This Overwatch crate is a very good example of a type of Sc-Fi crate I would like to create for my game. The shape is probably the main asset that I would like to use and implement into my own design.
Textures
These are the type of textures that I would be looking to use in my crate. The majority of my crate would be a mixture of nice polished metals to give it a nice solid look. To fit the Sc-Fi theme I am looking to use a gold texture such as the one displayed, this will be effective to make the smaller details on the crate stand out.

In the PowerPoint slide I have have chosen a few models from different artists that influence my design.
Also I have made a final choice between my research that I have complete. These are the ideas that I shall take forward into the design phase and use as guidance to make my own design.
