Concept Art
For this lesson I will be looking at concept art from one of my favourite games Destiny 2. I will be researching an artist using a site called Artstation. I am looking for an artist has been involved with the making of Destiny 2 by making concept arts for environments and characters used within the game. Below I will leave an image and the name of the artist that I have decided to use as research.
This concept art above is of Destiny 2's Last city location. This artwork was made by a freelance concept artist named Blake Rottinger.
The image above stood out to me because it is a side of Destiny I have never seen before, It looks very peaceful and the civilians and Guardians are seen with each other in harmony. I really like the colours in this concept art as they are very warming and they make the surrounding environment look very appealing, the image also seems to get bright as you look deeper into the subject matter. If I was to change anything about this artwork I would maybe consider adding more civilians to the front of the image that could maybe be seen interacting with the Guardians.
This artwork above is another environment concept by freelance artist Blake Rottinger.
The reason this image stood out to me is because it looks like the kind of Destiny 2 location were there would be plenty of exploration to be done in such a beautiful environment. I really like how the colours in this artwork blender together as although we see bright red and white flowers they are also seen to look quite dark due to the lighting surrounding the flowers. I also like how the background focuses on more rougher colours to help create a darkening shadow around the guardians as they explore the black garden. If I was to change anything about this artwork I would probably add a enemy of some sort hiding in the background to help build the mood and capture the view curiosity.
This concept art above is of some Titan gear in Destiny 2 made by another concept artist who specializes in character art. The name of the Artist is Allan Lee.
The reasons this image stood out to me is because I recognized this gear set as I have it in game, so I decide to talk about why I like it and how I would change it to. I like this gear set because it carries a great colour scheme at its base level, this colour scheme is a pearl white with hints of very light blue around the logos. The shape of this gear is very intriguing as it looks very intricate and precise, the sharp spikes really make the character look menacing witch I thing is perfect for a Titan. If I was to change anything about this concept art I would probably like to see the character in different poses as seen in a battle, this would better illustrate how the gear would look in a game scenario.
The final concept art I will be discussing is of a enemy character called a Berserker this is by the same artist as seen above named Allan Lee.
This concept art caught my eye because I have never seen this enemy in game before and I think it looks really cool. The enemy type seems to be the Fallen but this version looks very powerful and far more interesting. I like how the Berserker is very armoured and has bright red eyes which look extremely intimidating and make the character look far more fearsome compared to just a non armoured Fallen vandals. There's not much I would change about this concept art as the character looks great but I would like to see what kind of weapon this enemy would be using in a combat situation.
