Unreal Engine: Cabin

Updated: Nov 25, 2020

Below are some screenshots of my Cabin that I made in Unreal Engine.

To make this cabin I used an Assets pack from the epic games store free of charge. Once I had downloaded the pack I simply added it to a fresh project, and then I was ready to begin. I used the assets in the pack to create my own cabin, below are the results an a brief explanation of each part of my cabin.

Here is my cabin all built up:

This is the cabin all built up with a fence and a small front yard. The theme of my cabin was a cozy builders lodge with a works space and plenty of living room. The cabin is made up of a few assets such as walls, doors, door frames widows, widow frames, ceiling, support beams, etc.

Below is a screenshot of the builders yard:

Here is were the builder would store materials such as the bricks. The yard is made up of a wooden floor and a pile of bricks that I surrounded with a wooden fence.

Below is a screenshot of a chimney asset I added:

The chimney is one big asset that I just placed round the back of the cabin for some nice detail.

Below is a picture of the first floor interior:

Above is the first floor interior that I didn't have time to finish, however I still added some lighting to brighten up the empty space.

Below is a picture of the Initial Cabin floorplan that I designed:

In evaluation I achieved the shape and layout of my house just how I set out to in the floorplan. I manage to add all the assets that I needed to successfully build each part of the cabin, this includes the roof, porch, fences, windows, doors and the basic walls of the rooms. I built up the house very well and it certainly has a solid look to it, my placement of doors, windows and other accessories worked well together to create a detailed cabin. The main positives of this task are my exterior work on the cabin.

However, although I may have built the exterior perfectly to the floorplan, I did not spend enough time on the interior design of the house as all that can be found is some warm lighting that I put in each room to brighten up the cabin. The reason for the lack of interior design is simply because I used up all my time on the exterior of the house, leaving no time to place any assets into the cabin to decorate the rooms. The main negatives of my cabin were that I left the interior complete empty and added no detail apart from some lighting.

In conclusion if I was to do this again I would make sure that I left my self plenty of time to complete the interior as not completing it is my biggest let down of the cabin.
